According to GatorCountry.com, Saint Joe’s Senior Quarterback and Safety Skyler Mornhinweg is heading to the Florida Gators. After committing to Stanford in his Sophomore season, Mornhinweg de-committed after Coach Jim Harbaugh left the Cardinal to coach the San Fransisco 49ers in the National Football League.
Mornhinweg de-committed again after committing to Penn State this season after the Sandusky scandal and loss of Coach Paterno. This is not just a big move for Mornhinweg and the University of Florida, but also a big loss for the Nittany Lions. Without Skyler, Penn State loses a dual-threat Quarterback and son of Philadelphia Eagles Offensive Coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. The only quality Quarterback on Penn State’s 2012 recruiting class is a recent commit, with the name of Steven Bench. Bench is not rated as high as Mornhinweg, but is much more mobile and can pick up yards on the ground rather than the air.
Skyler visited Florida this weekend with his Florida, and enjoyed his stay so much that he gave the verbal committment to Coach Muschamp of Florida who pick up his 21st committment for the 2012 college football season.
Before his visit to the University of Florida, Mornhinweg told Prime Timing Sports that “he was not sure” if he would de-commit to Penn State. Obviously, the scandal and coaching changes made yet another potential recruit flee from Coach O’Brien’s first class.
What Mornhinweg brings isn’t just about arm strength or mobility, but poise, field vision, and stature. Graded an 80 by ESPN, the future Gator knows all of the ins and outs of the game of football. He isn’t fast as the Denard Robinson’s or Mike Vick’s, but his mobility is good enough for him to escape pressure and find a man downfield.
Mornhinweg’s high school (Saint Joseph’s), is located downtown in Philadelphia. The Hawks completed a 7-4 record this season, but Mornhinweg was the obvious MVP of the Prep.
Skyler Mornhinweg was not available for comment before this article was written.
